Black Women Need Love Too

Writer's picture: Ma'atma UhuruMa'atma Uhuru

You don’t love me because I’m perfect

Never making mistakes

Never acting out of character

You love me because I’m real

A Black Woman who makes her own rules

Often angry

And even more often afraid

So you show your love by understanding

And not giving up on me

You still find me beautiful in ugly moments

Moments colored in red, black, and blue

Pick up your sword and swing Black Man

Help me slay these demons

Let me break these chains

Of self-sabotage and feeling unworthy

Stay...please...

Don’t leave me when it’ gets cold

To go play in the fluffy white snow

Just wait for the warmer days

And know that my light shines each day

And my love will always leave you covered

Like a sweater made from the sun’s rays
